Maxwell runs away to the seaside town of Burdock. The Invisible Man overhears him and chases after him, threatening to kill him. However, Maxwell tries to betray the Invisible Man to the police. Maxwell breaks into the Coach and Horses to retrieve the Invisible Man's scientific notes while the Invisible Man steals some clothes. The Invisible Man goes back to the village with Maxwell. ![]() He frightens a vagrant called Thomas Maxwell and forces him to become his assistant. The Invisible Man heads into the countryside. The police try to arrest the man but he takes off his clothes, to become completely invisible, and escapes. ![]() He tells her that he is invisible and removes his false nose and beard and takes off his bandages to prove it. Some of the furniture then seems to come alive and forces the couple out of the room. They find his clothes scattered on the floor but no sight of the man himself. Hall, the owners of the Coach and Horses Inn, enter the stranger's room out of curiosity. He is wearing a long coat, gloves, a broad brimmed hat, and dark goggles. One snowy winter's day, a stranger arrives at the Coach and Horses Inn in the English village of Iping, West Sussex, demanding a room. ![]()
